Rob Petitti & Waterfall
Rob Petitti has been in and out of the local music scene since 1979 playing drums in various cover bands in and around the Philly area. His first paying gig was his youngest sister's juniorProm at St Hubert's high School in NE Philly. After that, his band Swing Shift became a fixture at some of the bigger clubs and played on the same bill as Lecompt,The Circles and Arety. When Rob recently decided to into the studio ” the first guy I thought of was Keith Brogan our Old bass player and front guy. He's about as solid a musician as there is. I was ecstatic, when he was able to come on board." Along with AJ Slick, Perry Wolfe and Marc Iezzi the Band when into Junction Music Studios in Huntington Valley back in January and began the the princess if cutting live tracks. " For me AJ Slick was the main force for me to consider
Going into a studio. I happened to show up at one if his open mic nights at Spencers Irish Pub last summer and was playing mostly my own songs on acoustic guitar when he came up to me and asked about some the songs I played. It's funny because he pointed out that he liked my lyrics. I never had anyone notice my lyrics before. From then on we formed a pretty tight friendship and over the next 6 month started fleshing out the songs that would eventually be included in Waterfall. AJ is an incredible artist in his own right and has toured with some major artists. His ability to figure a part out and nail it the first or second take amazed me. He is truly gifted. I later asked Perry Wolfe a terrific keyboard player to sit in with us and see what direction his playing would have on the songs. His energy can be felt on all the tracks. His creativity and smooth playing helped develop a distinct sound while his driving rythem really held the tracks together. The last piece for the project was finding a good solid pocket drummer. My songs are mostly country rock and rely on the bass and drummer locking in. Marc Iezzi the longtime drummer for The AJ Slick Band filled that role perfectly. He has great feel and plays flawless. Being a drummer myself when I write a song I usually know what type if meter I'm looking for. Marc was very easy to work with and usually got it after one it two takes. His drum roll in the intro to Can't Stop the Rain was a perfect example of listening to a song and play what naturally fits without stepping all over everyone else."
